Recent innovations in the foodservice industry, like online booking and food delivery have made consumers' lives more convenient than ever. However, progress from a consumer perspective stands in stark contrast to what’s beneath the hood - the depressing state of professional kitchens. The $3.4tn industry, already previously grappling with record closures and mental health problems amongst employees is now hitting rock bottom as a result of the pandemic.
Our founder JJ regularly spent the summers of his teenage years working in kitchens. After finding himself back there once more a decade later, he was shocked to find out how little the industry had changed. Who would have thought quitting a career in banking to become a chef would be the the start of a journey to transform this industry through tech.
Jelly was founded 3 years ago to fundamentally transform the foodservice industry from the ground up - yes you guessed it - chefs in kitchens. Whilst bootstrapping in stealth, our app was adopted by 70+ foodservice sites, ranging from Michelin-starred restaurants to school canteens, from the UK to the US.
Since raising venture funding from Tier 1 VCs, including those that put the first money into Revolut, Transferwise and Just Eat, our team has grown 5x in the past 4 months. We're headquartered in London but our ambition is to scale globally, fast.
At a time when the global foodservice industry must undergo the biggest technological transformation in its history, we are a well-funded, early stage company with great traction, talent and timing to shape its future.
This is your opportunity to design a game-changing product in a fast paced live user environment. Your decisions will directly impact our users' experience inside and outside professional kitchens throughout the world: from swish fine dining to the favourite food delivery.
We’re looking for a designer who can do everything in their power to help the Jelly team get great products in the hands of our beloved users.
You’ll bring your wide range of skills to the end to end product creation process. Whether you’ve worked as a product designer, have held UI, UX or UI/UX roles, we’re looking for someone with all-round design skills
You’ll work closely with everyone across the (small) Jelly team to shape and solve impactful problems with great design, and collaborate closely with developers to launch these new products
To do that well, understanding and making sense of a complicated space will be really important. In the service of translating ideas into world-class designs for mobile and web application by crafting journey maps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, or high-fidelity mock-ups - you’ll create the right artefacts to help everyone understand what matters
You’ll work closely with developers to ship great products, creating useful design documentation along the way that communicates our choices and approach to the whole team. You’ll be experienced in executing user-centered design and design process, developing our ability to make frequent, small changes to evolve our product
You’ll be obsessed about understanding more about our users, gathering insight from across the company, and directly from their usage of our app, using that to hone our ability to make even better user-centered decisions in our product development process
You’ll be responsible for evolving Jelly’s design system - we’re early on in our journey and need help laying the foundations for many years of innovation in this space. Whether that’s through developing our component library, helping us transition to mobile-first design or other means, we’re on an iterative process to ship greater products to our users that we hope you can supercharge
If there’s time, we’d like you to bring change to more than just our product - such as creating brand identity, marketing materials and leveling up our overall aesthetics.
Experience leading design on a product or project, and have been a part of the whole experience from research to go-live. Bonus points for startup experience
Solid understanding and experience in all aspects of user-centered design
Deep understanding of mobile app UX best practices as well familiarity with Material Design guidelines
Proficient with Figma, or similar tools
Rigorous knowledge of design fundamentals, whether that’s typography, colour theory, graphic design
You’re used to using insights and research to shape your work, have carried out user interviews and know your way around tools like Hotjar
Attention to detail and strong sense of empathy
